Bridge work detours traffic on Railroad Grade

Traffic is being detoured on Railroad Grade Road while contractors replace the bridge over Mill Creek between Brownwood and Fleetwood. The NC Department of Transportation awarded an $896,000 contract to Mountain Creek Construction of Catawba County this winter. Construction must conclude by Nov. 1, 2009, according to the DOT. Doc Watson returning to Todd Aug. 22

Spring Snow Day

Snow squalls are moving through the valley this afternoon, putting a cold blanket on the recent burst of spring blooms. An inch or two is on the ground and the air is full of more falling flakes. Looks like we’ll have to wait for a return to spring until Thursday.
