The Todd Community Preservation Organization is an active group of Todd citizens who are dedicated to preserving our mountain roots and our small town charm. The following are just a few of the many ongoing projects completed by the TCPO, its partners and volunteers. |
|
The most recent project to be completed is the Todd Historic District Walking Trail. Trail brochures are available in the Depot, the Todd General Store and the Todd Mercantile. This self-guided tour meanders through Todd’s historic district and includes nearby places of interest such as the old Elkland School and Gymnasium.
Ongoing is the 6th Annual Todd Summer Music Series. This popular afternoon of Appalachian rooted music in Cook Park is a local and tourist favorite. Local musicians such as Wayne Henderson and Amantha Mill keep the southern mountain music traditions alive for young and old alike. A special memorial concert by Doc Watson is an additional summer special event.
The Todd Island Park and the Walter and Annie Cook Memorial Park were both purchased and are maintained by the TCPO. TCPO partners, Handmade in America , provided funding for the stage in Cook Park. Todd Ruritan Club has also partnered with the TCPO to assist with landscaping and maintaining both of our local Parks.
TCPO has also partnered with the National Committee for the New River, the NC Clean Water Management Trust and River Builders to assist Todd in protecting the river and its banks by planting trees for stream bank stabilization.
TCPO supports local community based organizations and their events such as the Elkland Art Center and the 4th of July, community Liberty Parade & Circus.
